Beating Business Burnout: Helpful, Fun & Creative Ways To Relieve Stress For Entrepreneurs

Written by the design team at HVD Studios, LLC

Whether you work from a home office or have your own brick and mortar location -- running a business when you have to wear multiple hats within your operation, attack various day-to-day tasks, and balance your business with home life can be quite the daunting feat.

It’s so easy to get caught up taking care of everyone else around you and neglect your own mental and physical wellness, but the most important thing to keep in mind is the importance of setting aside a little time to take care of yourself, relieving stress and reaching for your favorite hobby that brings out the creative side of you so that you’ll be refreshed and still in “go mode” even after you've taken a small hiatus from business as usual.

Don’t hesitate to make it a point to take a break (or 3) throughout your hectic day and do any of the following:

Get tuned in: Music therapy is a major player in stress management and one of our favorite vices and escapes while taking a break or working period. Make a playlist featuring your favorite songs or artists to start your morning with or for your commute to work. Try picking a theme. Or listen to a playlist you’ve already made that takes you to a happy, calming or inspirational place. Checkout a new podcast that’s centered around your area of expertise, hobbies, current events or self help and motivation. Just for fun: here’s a playlist we love for any R&B lovers out there reading this.

Get active: We are fitness enthusiasts and dog lovers (you knew this tip was coming 😀). Get up and stretch, walk your dog, circle the block for a power walk in an effort to grab some fresh air and get your heart rate going. Take the opportunity to hit a safe trail and take some eye-catching nature flicks while you're at it that you can possibly print and hang in your office. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water through out the day to keep your brain hydrated, which improves your concentration, memory, cognition and overall mood and physical health.

Get educated: Take a break from your work day to pick up that book you've been meaning to read, or watch a YouTube video or two for laughs, information or inspiration. One mark of any goal driven entrepreneur is one who spends time actively learning and looking to improve their knowledge and skill set within their industry, but don’t be afraid to dig into a new venture altogether that has NOTHING to do with (your) business.

Get really relaxed: Light a candle, sip some herbal tea, go run an errand that makes you go out for a drive, pray or meditate and zone out for a little while to ease the tension of the day (oh, and put your phone away while you’re at it). Hey, sneak in a power nap if you need to -- just remember to set your alarm. Minimizing or avoiding stressful situations, thoughts and feelings can be accomplished by simply giving yourself time to breathe and concentrate on nothing but re-centering and refocusing your mind. Face your stressors and see if you can solve the root of any problems you may be facing at the moment.

Get creative: The theme of most of these tips is to take stress relieving productivity breaks and being creative while doing so. But there are tons of unique, fun and artistic outlets to dive into within a 15-20 minute time frame that feels like a complete escape from business. Take up crocheting, grab yourself an adult coloring book (we thought this one was kind fun), journal your innermost thoughts, do some fun doodling in a sketchbook, get into jewelry making or even vlog about something you feel the need to get off of your chest. Possibly even jot down some notes relating to a new business venture.

Let us know if these ideas and tips help or if we missed any other fun, creative or helpful ways to reduce stress and still be productive when taking productivity breaks at work!
